General Information

Programme Profile

The graduates achieve a cultural and professional preparation to work with specific competence in health care, management and research within different areas (podology, physiotherapy, logopedy, orthoptists, occupational therapy, and others). They possess scientific and ethical knowledge, and professional competences which are needed in this medical area, thanks to more accurate studies and specific research. High competences are also necessary in education, prevention, rehabilitation, according to specific health problems and service quality. The graduates are able to participate in staff planning and management, taking into accounts the needs of the community, the new methods in work organization, and the technological progress, with special regards to telemedicine. They also experience a professional activity which allows to face management problems and to participate to research programs.

Key Learning Outcomes

Graduates in science health rehabilitation must be able to demonstrate:
- Deep knowledge of biomedical sciences for the understanding of physiological and pathological processes connected with her state of health and disease rehabilitation of interest to people in different
ages of life; deepening the advanced diagnostic and therapeutic aspects, with particular attention to the responsibility of specific professional fields.
- knowledge of science ethical, legal, economic and sociological understanding of the organizational complexity of the healthcare system, in relation to structures of medium and high complexity, importance and usefulness to act in accordance with the rules and directives and respect for human values and ethical dilemmas that arise in practice daily, are also aimed at fostering an understanding of professional autonomy, the areas of integration and interdependence with other health professionals, public economics and business, the essential elements of the organization with particular reference to health services, public law and administrative law applicable to the relations between the authorities and the users involved in health services, the elements of human resource management, with particular reference to the problems in the health sector, the main techniques of organization and processes to optimize the use of human resources, information and technology, the application of organizational analysis and control of expenses and management in health facilities;
- knowledge of hygiene and preventive sciences for understanding the determinants of health, risk factors, prevention strategies both individual and
measures to promote the safety of health workers and users, with an emphasis on radiation protection.
- Ability to language skills with special emphasis on the English language for the understanding of the scientific literature.

Occupational Profile/s of Graduates

Graduates carry out their professional activities in public or private health facilities in the community, either as employees or freelance. The Graduates in the class have a cultural education and advanced vocational education to intervene with high expertise in business processes, organizational, training and research within their professions relevant to the class. Graduates develop, partly as a result of the experience gained through a adequate professional activity, an integrated approach to organizational and management problems of the health professions, qualified by the mastery of the techniques and health management procedures, in compliance with the own and others' skills. The methodological knowledge acquired also allow you to intervene in the processes education and research peculiar to the above-mentioned areas.

Access to further study

The Laurea Magistrale degree in Health Professions of Rehabilitation Sciences allows the graduate to compete for entry into a Third Cycle programme/doctoral school.

Assessment methods, examination regulations, and grading

Assessment is normally by means of an oral or written examination; in some cases there are intermediate exams during the course; other elements (participation in discussion, written or oral reports, comment of texts etc. ) are foreseen in specific course units and are described in the Course Unit Profiles.
The grading system for the course units consists of 30 possible points, plus 'lode' (cum laude) in case of excellence. Marks are given by the lecturer on the basis of performance as ascertained in a public examination by a board of at least two teachers. Main exam sessions are held in June/July; September; and January; students may resit exams**. Actual grading curves differ in different degree programmes. The University of Pisa provides an ECTS Grading Table, which shows the actual distribution, of examination and final grades among students of each degree programme, in order to facilitate comparison with other grading systems. ---> Link to ECTS Grading Table
An overall mark is given on occasion of the 'Final Exam', when a written research text is presented and discussed. The final overall mark is calculated on the results of the marks obtained in the single course units and the final exam, and is based on 110 possible points, with the possible further mention of honours ("lode" or cum laude).

**The exam sessions are organised in sessions (the dates vary according to the Department and are published in the Department's academic calendar). In each session there are a certain number of 'appelli' [calls], or dates on which the examination for each course unit may be taken. The 'appelli' are fixed by the teacher. The student chooses which of the appelli he or she wishes to respond to. In most cases it is obligatory to sign up before the specified date.

Requirements (regulations) to obtain the qualification

To attain the degree is expected to submit a thesis elaborated by the student under the guidance of a professor.
Students have the option to draw up the work in English.
