“L’architettura fa parte della storia personale di ciascuno di noi e per il solo fatto di vivere dentro a degli edifici, possediamo tutti un’esperienza sufficiente ad affrontare lo studio della storia dell’architettura” (P. Nuttgens, 1988).
Il corso si propone di avviare lo studente ad una prima lettura critica del costruito attraverso le cognizioni di base della storia dell'architettura: metodologia, elementi di storia delle costruzioni, episodi paradigmatici, simbologia. Durante il percorso formativo analizzeremo i principali canoni interpretativi della storia dell'architettura.
"Architecture is part of the personal history of each of us and for the simple fact that we live inside buildings, we all have enough experience to study architecture history" (P. Nuttgens, 1988).
The degree program aims at encouraging students to a first critical reading of an architectural structure using their general knowledge of History of Architecture: methodology, elements of the history of building construction, paradigms, symbolism. During the educational path main interpretative principles of Architectural history will be analysed.
Lo strumento utilizzato per accertare l'acquisizione da parte dello studente degli obiettivi stabiliti è l'esame in forma di colloquio orale.

Gli studenti che completeranno l'intero percorso formativo saranno in grado di riconoscere i principali canoni interpretativi della storia dell'architettura analizzati durante le lezioni. L'ambizione del corso è avviare lo studente ad una prima lettura critica del costruito.
The student who completes the course successfully will be able to analyse the main interpretative principles of Architectural history studied during lessons . The purpose is to offer to our students the mastery of skills necessary for historical research as well as to upgrade their cultural education.

The oral exam will focus on the topics developed during the course and will ensure the student's acquisition of the goals set.
Lo studente deve dimostrare la conoscenza delle opere più significative della stosria dell'architettura e di poter collegare i contesti sociali e culturali con un linguaggio appropriato.
The student must demonstrate his/her knowledge of the most significant works of history architecture (from the Middle Ages through to the 16th century), and to be able to make connections between the corresponding social and cultural contexts using an appropriate language.

Il corso si articola in lezioni frontali, lezioni fuori sede presso alcuni centri storici toscani e lezioni su argomenti specifici da parte di esperti di settore. I materiali delle lezioni frontali e la bibliografia completa verranno forniti dal docente.
The course will be organized through frontal lessons, study visits to Tuscany old town and lectures on specific topics by field experts. Lectures and bibliography materials
will be provided by the teacher.
Il corso fornisce agli studenti una conoscenza approfondita degli episodi più significativi verificatisi nella storia dell'architettura, dal Medioevo al XVI secolo, attraverso lo studio e l'analisi degli edifici.
Il racconto di alcuni casi paradigmatici aiuterà a leggere le opere che di volta in volta esamineremo - dalla rinascenza carolingia al “bambino romanico traballante”, dall’esperimento gotico dell’Ille-de-France alla mancanza di un vero e proprio capitolo gotico italico, fino all’armonia rinascimentale -.
Al fine di fornire un metodo critico valido per “fare storia dell’edificazione” applicheremo alle architetture alcune categorie di conoscenza – struttura, funzione, morfologia, semantica -. In particolare, lo scopo è quello di promuovere la conoscenza di alcuni temi fondamentali della storia dell'architettura per capire il costruito.
The course aims to provide students with a solid knowledge of the most significant episodes occurred in the history of architecture, from the Middle Ages to the 16th century, through the study and analysis of buildings. In particular, the aim will be to promote the knowledge of some fundamental themes of history of Architecture: the most significant episodes in the history of Italian architecture between Middle Ages and XVI century - from the Carolingian Renaissance to the "wobbly Romanesque", from the Gothic experiment of Ille-de-France to the lack of a real Gothic Italic chapter, up to the Renaissance Harmony -. In order to provide students with a valid approach to understand the history of the buildings, we will apply to the architectures some categories of knowledge - structure, function, morphology, semantics -.

La prova orale consiste in un colloquio tra il candidato e il docente titolare. L'esame orale riguarda tutti gli argomenti trattati durante il corso.
