Learning outcomes
Knowledge

This knowledge is related with this class:

- Pioneers of Peace Studies;

- Johan Galtung's perspective;

- Contemporary discussion on the theory and practice of Galtung's peace research

Assessment criteria of knowledge

For the assessment of knowledge the student will have to carry out during the oral exam a presentation in Powerpoint on a topic relevant to those discussed during the course.

Skills

Understanding, critical reflection, problem analysis and argumentation.

Assessment criteria of skills

Classroom interventions, power point realization and text study.

Behaviors

Student will be familiar with preconditions required for a scientifically and adequate understanding of problems exposed.

During the course and the final exam

Prerequisites

No particular prerequisites are required, even if a basic knowledge about problems of war and methods of non-violent conflict resolution can facilitate the training.

Teaching methods

- Lectures with use of slides/slides - (onlne).

- Socratic method of interaction.

- To use photocopies and classroom dialogue

- Student-teacher interaction via student reception and e-mail

- Laboratory preparation of supporting material

A. Historical and Philosophical background : 1. General problems and perspectives 2. Gandhi. 3. Capitini. 4. Bobbio

B. Joan Galtung and Peace studies (1): 1. Epistemological basis I 2.  Epistemological basis  II 3. Conflict theory and Cultural violence 4. Transcend, the Galtung's method. 5. Criticism on Galtung. 6. Munoz critics Galtung. 7. Sharp, an alternative to Galtung.

C. Peace studies: 1. Giuliano Pontara  or Southafrica or Anthropology of violence.

- Presentation of a power pount on a theme of your choice related to the chosen books.

- Presentation of a power point on a topic of your choice.
