The student who completes the course successfully will be able to design the footings of buildings and civil constructions, to perform the safety assessments, and to determine the settlements, either of the superficial or deep foundations.
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology.
Before the exam, an exercise is assigned to each student. The exercise concerns the executive design of the foundation structures of one assigned civil building. In the exercise, the student must demonstrate his/her knowledge to solve practical problems. The design choices adopted must be suitably justified in the oral exam, both from the point of view of structural design and through appropriate calculations.
With the oral presentation, to be made to the teacher and the other students, the student must demonstrate the ability to approach a circumscribed research problem, and organize an effective exposition of the results.
