Il corso è finalizzato a fornire agli studenti conoscenze di base della eziopatogenesi, della epidemiologia della diagnosi di laboratorio e della profilassi delle principali malattie infettive degli animali in produzione zootecnica.Particolare attenzione sarà dedicata alle malattie infettive trasmissibili all'uomo . Gli studenti potranno acquisire i metodi per comprendere l'interazione tra ambiente, animali,tecnologie di allevamento e agenti patogeni. Il corso fornirà le conoscenze per analizzare i fattori predisponenti la diffusione delle malattie infettive e per mettere in atto efficaci strategie di prevenzione.
VETERINARY HYGIENE
The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge in etiopathogenesis, epidemiology and laboratory diagnosis of the main infectious diseases of livestock animals, horses and dogs. Students will acquire methods for understanding the interaction of livestock with the environment and pathogens. Students will be able to understand the interaction among animals, environment and pathogen microrganisms.
LEGISLATION FOR LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION
The class aims to provide knowledge about legislation in different livestock fields, such as animals buying and selling, animals welfare, livestock animals legislative classification and identification, the legislation behind the production and commercialization of animals food. This kind of knowledge will be particularly important for the future employers in the livestock breeding or animals feed production.
One of the purpose of this class is also to provide to the students all the ability for knowledge updating about Italian and European legislation.
Per l'accertamento delle conoscenze è prevista una prova finale orale sugli argomenti trattati nel corso delle lezioni frontali, delle esercitazioni e delle lezioni fuori sede.
VETERINARY HYGIENE
During the oral exam the student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology and knowledge on etiopathogenesis, epidemiology, laboratory diagnosis and prophylaxis of the main infectious diseases of livestock and the most common infectious diseases of the dog

LEGISLATION FOR LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION
During the class, the knowledge and skills acquisition will be evaluated through multiple choices test and questions.
Lo studente acquisirà le capacità, per analizzare i fattori predisponenti la diffusione delle malattie infettive e per mettere in atto efficaci strategie di prevenzione . Lo studente sarà inoltre in grado di eseguire corretti campionamenti e di interpretare correttamente i risultati delle analisi di laboratorio.
VETERINARY HYGIENE
The student will acquire the skills to analyze the predisposing factors of spreading infectious diseases and to implement effective preventive and control strategies. The student will also be able to perform correct sampling and correctly interpret the results of laboratory analysis.
LEGISLATION FOR LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION
The student will acquire the ability to understand and apply the current legislation relating to different cases presented during the lessons. The student will be train in the daily application of legislation concerning the animal welfare, the animal identification, and transport, and the animal feed production.
Finally, the student will acquire the ability to update his/her knowledge and information about the current legislation through the use of multimedia searching engines and official web-sites.
Sarà possibile accertare le capacità di cui sopra tramite le attività di gruppo previste durante le esercitazione in laboratorio e durante le lezioni fuori sede.
VETERINARY HYGIENE
It will be possible to verify the abilities acquired through the group activities scheduled within the laboratory training sessions and during on farm/plant lessons.
LEGISLATION FOR LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION
Individual skills will be verified during class through active discussions with the professor and simulations of legislative cases (e.g. horse selling, cattle identification and registration, compilation of the transport document, etc.). During these sessions, the professor will be able to assess student's skills and highlight the critical points of the learning process through the direct evaluation of the student.
The student could also simulate and manage practical situation concerning livestock welfare or animal feed production.
Conseguenza diretta dell'acquisizione di conoscenze e capacità teorico-pratiche sarà il comportamento appropriato in laboratorio e durante le visite agli allevamenti. Lo studente dovrà saper comunicare adeguatamente con gli zootecnici e i veterinari in merito a problematiche relative alla presenza di agenti patogeni in allevamento. Lo studente dovrà altresì avere padronanza della terminologia e dei concetti principali che concernono la materia oggetto di studio.
VETERINARY HYGIENE
The acquisition of theoretical and practical skills would allow students to maintain an appropriate behavior in the laboratory environment and during visits on farms. Student should be able to communicate adequately with people operating in the zootechnical field and veterinarians concerning issues related to the presence of pathogens in breeding. The student must also possess an appropriate terminology and masters the main concepts related to veterinary hygiene.
LEGISLATION FOR LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION
The student will be able to work alone, or in a group, in any kind of animal breeding/ feed production by following the legislation concerning the animal welfare, the animal identification, the animal transport, the animal buying and selling and the animal feed production and selling.
The student should be able to communicate adequately with the owner, or the farmer, during the history collection stage or the stage of problem solving. The student will be learn how to establish a solid and professional relationship with the owner, or with the farmer, in order to let these people trust him/her and cooperate in the application of the law.
Finally, the student will acquire the ability to update his knowledge and information about the current legislation through the use of multimedia searching engines and official web-sites.
Le previste esercitazioni pratiche in laboratorio e le lezioni fuori sede rappresenteranno il principale momento per la verifica dei comportamenti acquisiti da parte del docente.
VETERINARY HYGIENE
The scheduled practical training sessions in the laboratory and on farm/plant lessons represent the optimal time for the teacher for verifying the behaviors learned.
LEGISLATION FOR LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION
The acquisition of these behaviors will be verified by direct observation of the student by the teacher. The student will be evaluated in his/her resolution and approach to simulated probable situations and cases presented by the teacher

Il presente modulo didattico prevede lezioni frontali con ausilio slide, foto e talvolta filmati.
Le esercitazioni del presente modulo si svolgono in laboratorio a gruppi di massimo 10 studenti con l'ausilio di strumenti e materiali a disposizione del laboratorio stesso (Microscopi, cappe biologiche, pipette e pipettatori, ecc...).

VETERINARY HYGIENE
Introduction to veterinary hygiene: biosafety of farms. Immune prophylaxis, control and eradication of infectious diseases. Etiopathogenesis, epidemiology, laboratory diagnosis and prophylaxis of infectious diseases of production animals, horses and dogs.
Bacterial Infectious Diseases: brucellosis, leptospirosis, salmonellosis, colibacillosis, chlamydiosis, pasteurellosis, atrophic rhinitis, tuberculosis, paratuberculosis, erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae infection, clostridiosis, anthrax, micoplasmosis.
Viral Infectious diseases of cattle: foot and mouth disease, viral diarrhea/mucosal disease, enzootic leukosis, infectious rhinotracheitis, parainfluenza
Viral Infectious diseases of goats and sheep: lentivirosis, blue-tongue
Viral Infectious Diseases of pigs: Lice/vesicular disease, swine fever, Aujeszky's disease, swine fever, respiratory syndrome
Viral Infectious Disease of poultry: avian flu, Newcastle disease, infectious laryngotracheitis
Viral Infectious Diseases of rabbits: mixomatosis, viral haemorrhagic disease

Le modalità di svolgimento dell'esame consisteranno in una prova orale nella quale verranno verificate l'acquisizione di conoscenze , le capacità e i comportamenti sia di natura teorica che pratica.

The exam consist of an oral test in aimed to verify the acquisition of knowledge, skills and behaviors, both theoretical and practical.
LEGISLATION FOR LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION
Written test.
The on-going class test will be a 2 hours length multiple choices and long-questions test. The result of this test will expire on the 30 of June of the following year.
