Prerequisiti: solide basi di Botanica Generale e Fisiologia Vegetale.
Fornire agli studenti adeguate conoscenze di botanica avanzata, particolarmente per quanto concerne le interazioni tra le piante e l'ambiente.
Richiami a Cyanobacteria e Chlorophyta. Radiazione evolutiva delle Streptophyta. La simbiosi lichenica. Esempi pratici sull'impiego dei licheni nella bioindicazione e nel bioaccumulo. Concetto di stress nelle piante e risposta agli stress secondo i modelli "LAS" e "GAS" di Hans Selye. Omeostasi, acclimatamento e adattamento. Stress abiotici da carenza ed eccesso di acqua, salinità, alte e basse temperature, inquinanti ambientali. Elevate concentrazioni atmosferiche di CO2 ed effetto serra. Il metabolismo secondario nelle interazioni piante-ambiente. Stress biotici: organismi biotrofi, necrotrofi ed emibiotrofi. Difese delle piante contro i patogeni: risposte costitutive, localmente elicitate e sistemiche.

Streptophyta. The lichen symbiosis. Practical examples on lichen
employment in bioindication and bioaccumulation. Concept of plant
stress and response according to the "LAS" and "GAS" models by Hans
Selye. Homeostatic, acclimative and adaptive responses. The gouldian
exaptation in the stress responses. Abiotic stress given by drought and
flooding, salt, high and low temperature, environmental pollutants. High
atmospheric CO2 levels and greenhouse effect. Biotic stress: biotrophic,
necrotrophic and emibiotrophic organisms. Plant defense against
pathogens: constitutive, locally-elicited and systemic responses. The
secondary metabolism in the ambit of the plant-environment interactions.
