Learning outcomes
Knowledge

The topics analysed will raise student awareness to the issues and themes dealt with during lectures. This will allow for the development of knowledge and acquisition of analytical tools with which to interpret current events, with particular reference to the pacifist principle, the obligation to defend the homeland and the organisation of military justice.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

During the course recent cases will be discussed in order to evaluate the student’s ability to translate theory into practical application. The verification of knowledge will be carried out through a final test.

Skills

By the end of the course, students will be able to recognize the specific applications of some constitutional principles on pacifism, defence of the homeland and military justice. In addition, the proposed teaching method will encourage active participation to improve the student's communication skills.

Assessment criteria of skills

The students’ abilities will be verified through analyses of empirical cases of seminar topics. The evaluation criteria will be: the ability to understand and expound on a given topic; the ability to formulate independent evaluations; argumentative skills.

Behaviors

The student will develop an awareness of the problems relating to seminar topics. To this end, s/he will be able to form personal opinions and discuss her/his deductions in a reasoned way.

Prerequisites

Given the introductory nature of the course, no specific prerequisites are required. However, a basic knowledge of the fundamental principle of the Constitution will facilitate exam preparation.

Syllabus

The arguments discussed will cover the constitutional principles of pacifism and the state of war, the duty to defend the homeland and conscientious objection, and the organisation of military justice.

Bibliography

Bibliographic information will be provided during the course. The links to the materials used will be made available. Essays may be provided for further study of the topics and preparation for the final examination.

Assessment methods

The exam consists of a final written test, with multiple questions, with closed or open answers
