Conoscenze

Knowledge

Through the analysis of some representative plays, with particular attention to paratextual elements, students will acquire the basic historical-literary and methodological tools for an approach to the different aspects of the most important querelles between the 17th and 18th centuries.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

Academic progress will be monitored and verified from both the discussion of the written paper previously delivered and an oral examination. An intermediate test will evaluate both the knowledge of the historical-literary part (if passed this part will not be examined further) and the knowledge of the basic rules for bibliographic citation.

Skills

By the end of the course students will have acquired teamwork skills in classroom; they will be able to speak in front of others by carrying out a scientifically consistent argument, will be able to argue a written report, contextualize and analyse texts.

Assessment criteria of skills

Practical activities will be carried out to bibliographic sources through databases. Students will have to prepare and present a written report that documents the results of the project activity. During the seminars personal contributions and reflections will be appreciated.

Comportamenti

Behaviors

Students will acquire appropriate skills of accuracy and precision in carrying out activities of comparison and analysis of the texts. It will be necessary to demonstrate to be able to critically analyze the texts, on one hand, placing them in the historical context and, on the other, taking into account their formal and semantic aspects.

Assessment criteria of behaviors

The students' skills to contribute to the discussion in supporting a critical position, as well as the capacity to debate and respectfully disagree with the teachers and other students, will be tested during the seminar activity.

Prerequisiti (conoscenze iniziali)

Prerequisites

Students who attend this course should have an inclination for the humanities and, namely, literary studies. Since both the primary and secondary texts listed in the syllabus are in French, they should also have a basic knowledge of this language.

Indicazioni metodologiche

Teaching methods

Teaching will alternate frontal lessons with seminary activities (lectures, with visual aids such as powerpoints/videos, etc); the last part of the semester will be devoted to oral reports. Some lessons will be dedicated to the reading of the theatrical text.

The teaching material will be uploaded to the Moodle platform. For teacher-student communications, the use of the forum on the Moodle platform is encouraged.

Language of course: Italian and French

Programma (contenuti dell'insegnamento)

Scandalo a teatro: querelles in scena

Syllabus

Scandal at theater: querelles on stage

After providing a historical-literary framework of the history of French theater in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the course will focus on a peculiar aspect linked to the theatrical production: the querelle.

Non-attending students info

Non-attending students are requested to contact the teacher after carefully viewing the published syllabus.

The teaching program for non-attending students does not undergo any changes, except for the teaching load. The readings will focus on all the plays indicated in the primary bibliography and not on a choice by the student. The secondary bibliography will therefore be intended in its entirety.

Assessment methods

Ten days before the oral examination the student has to present his written report and to indicate the selected texts for the exam.

Students attending the course are expected to pass an intermediate test, which will evaluate the knowledge of the historical-literary part. In case of a positive result students will not take this part of the program to the oral exam. Those who fail the test will bring the complete program to the oral examination.
