Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be aware of the fundamental causes of ongoing climatic and environmental change. He/she will have an advanced knowledge of the indicators of climatic/environmental change and of the methods used to quantify it in the wide perspective of a geologcal time frame. The student will be able to critically evaluate the literature on the topic of environmental change including the IPCC reports.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her ability to critically discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. He/she will demonstrate to have aquired the ability to carry out either the practical activities illustrated by the teacher during the fieldwork or the bibliografhic research agreed with the teacher.

Paradigms of Geomorphology The debate on climate change and IPCC Hisorical Climatology Glaciers as indicators of climatic and environmental change (fluctuations of the equilibrium line altitude of mountain glaciers, ice cores in polar glaciers) Sea level change (how to monitor ongoing sea level change and reconstruct sea level change occurred in the past) Morphological processes responsible for rock coasts shaping

Recommended reading includes a number of articles from scientific journals that are mentioned during the lectures and are summarized in the didactic material (slides showed during lectures) that can be downloaded from the course portal (http://www.dst.unipi.it/claroline185)
