Knowledge
Students are expected to acquire basic concepts and knowledge of:
stratigraphy, structural geology and tectonics;
sedimentary processes and depositional environments:
metamorphic rocks and processes;
tectonic structures (fault and folds) and tectonic association in mountain belts.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.

The course provides notions on the following aspects:
sedimentary rocks, depositional environments, lithostratigraphic and biostratigraphic units;
metamorphic rocks, processes of metamorphism;
stress and strain, brittle and ductile deformation, rheology of the crust;
Fault structures, folds, thrust fault and detachment fault;
geological maps
