Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the most common renal diseases, as well as of the hemodialyis, peritoneal dialysis and renal transplantation.
The student will be able to know the correct nutritional treatments in the different stages of the chronic kidney disease, and in the case of dialysis or tranplantation. He/She will be able to know the basis of the dietary approach for the prevention of renal diseases and of nephrolithiasis.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.

Syllabus
The course provides notions on the main aspects of renal pathophysiology, and on hemodialysis treatment,peritoneal dialysis and renal transplant.
The course also approaches the main issues related to the nutritional requirement of the patient affected by chronic renal disease, and to the correct dietary treatment during the different stages of chronic renal disease, hemodialysis peritoneal dialysis and renal transplantation. Notions about the dietary treatment of diabetic patient with renal disease and obesity, and about kidney stone disease are provided as well.
