Knowledge
The course of Penitentiary Law has the purpose to furnish an organic picture of the execution of irrevocable criminal sentences. The expected learning outcomes of the course are the explanation of the constitutional principles and the basic knowledge of criminal punishment. Sharpening the logic and reasoning aptitude regarding the complex changes which have taken place the law of corrections from 1975 to date. The aim of the course is also to understand the crisis of correctional model of justice and the present process of ri-carceration

Syllabus
General principles of the execution of the sentence. In particular, the course will focus on substitute punishments, alternative measures and prison benefits, including the procedural aspects of sentencing enforcement. Indepth historical and comparative study of so called "escape" from prison sentencing. A study of punishments in theory and in practice. The discretionary power of judges and "constitutionally oriented" sentencing. The criteria underlying sentencing in practice. The sociology of sentencing in modern penology. The types of proceeding. The special prison for organized crime. International conventions and penitentiary law.
