Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who completes the course will be albe to demonstrate a solid knowledge on the main processes occuring at boundary between atmopshere, hydrosphere and pedosphere and on soil formation processes, organic matter degradation and importance of soil in sustaining modern societies development and the role in carbon storage and release.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
- The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology, and making appropirate correlation between different part of the course.

Methods:

  • Final oral exam

Further information:
The most important skill of the student will be the capacity to make correlation between different topic of the course (e.g. Weathering processes-CO2 in the atmosphere-climatic changes), no weight is done on student attendance

Teaching methods

Delivery: face to face

Learning activities:

  • attending lectures
  • participation in seminar
  • participation in discussions
  • Other

Attendance: Advised

Teaching methods:

  • Lectures
  • Seminar

Syllabus
Soil as system developing at the boundary between atmosphere-hydrosphere-litosphere. Notion of chemical and physical weathering. Soild evolution under different hydrological and climatic conditions. Soil and paleosols. Soil erosion and human impact on soil evolution. Geological proxies for inferring soil evolution in the past. Soil classifications and their use.
