Knowledge
Students will gain a broad understanding of the development of theories in criminology on the aetiology of crime and be able to make connections between theories of crime and criminal law.

The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology.

Syllabus
The objective of this course is to introduce the basic concepts of the criminological theory, providing an overview of various theories of crime causation, including an examination of psychological, economic and sociological perspectives on the aetiology of crime. Also, the relationship and interaction between legal constructions of crime (criminal law) and social aspects of crime (the subject matter of criminology) will be examined. In this respect, special emphasis will be given to white-collar crimes.
