Knowledge
The students who successfully complete the course will have 1) some knowledges of nuclear physics, especially nuclear interaction, few-body bound and scattering systems, nuclear reactions which take place in astrophysical environment; 2) the ability to set up the relevant formulas to calculate cross sections and astrophysical factors; 3) the required knowledges to understand the different aspects of the most recent state-of-the-art studies.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material with propriety of expression.

Syllabus
- Review of the general properties of nuclei.
- Astronomical observations and "standard models" (the theory of BBN, the pp chain, the 3-alpha reaction, the CNO cycle, alpha-burning, the s, r, rp and p processes).
- Some theory of nuclear reactions: cross section and astrophysical factor, electron-screening, Gamow peak and reaction rate, Saha equation and nuclear statistical equilibrium.
- Experimental techniques for astrophysics: direct measurements (LUNA and ERNA), indirect methods.
- Ab-initio study of the proton-proton and neutron-proton capture reactions.
- Overview of the state-of-the-art for the reaction in the pp chain and in the CNO cycle.
