Il corso intende illustrare i presupposti metodologici, gli snodi tematici principali e il significato teorico delle Lezioni sulla storia della filosofia di G.W.F. Hegel (semestre invernale 1825-1826), mettendone in luce la natura ‘fondativa’ rispetto alla storia della filosofia modernamente intesa.
The course is aimed at outlining the methodological principles, the core ideas and the theoretical meaning of Hegel’s Lectures on the History of Philosophy (Winter semester 1825-1826), in order to highlight the founding role played by this work in the emergence of the history of philosophy as modern discipline
Le conoscenze saranno verificate mediante la prova orale finale; è prevista poi la possibilità di redigere e presentare un elaborato scritto (10-15 cartelle) su un argomento concordato con i docenti, che verrà poi discusso in sede d’esame.
The knowledge will be verified through the final interview. Students will be also offered the possibility to prepare and submit a research paper (10-15 pages) on a topic agreed with the teachers, to be discussed during the final interview.
Il corso si pone come obiettivo primario lo sviluppo di specifiche capacità di analisi rivolte all’individuazione e alla comprensione dei principali aspetti teorici e metodologici dei classici della storiografia filosofica.
The course will enhance specific analytical skills, with special reference to the ability to identify and understand the main theoretical and methodological aspects of the classical texts of philosophical historiography.
La verifica delle capacità avverrà durante le lezioni, incentivando il dibattito e individuando momenti di lettura e analisi condivisa dei testi, con la partecipazione diretta degli studenti.
The achievement of the skills will be evaluated during the course, promoting the discussion and organizing shared reading and analysis of the texts, with the direct and active participation of the students.
Verrà promosso il raggiungimento di competenze trasversali in linea con l’obiettivo primario del corso, con particolare riferimento alla capacità di leggere in modo critico e autonomo i classici della storiografia filosofica, di contestualizzarli a livello storico e teorico, e di individuarne i principali presupposti metodologici. Particolarmente significativi si riveleranno, in tale contesto, i momenti di dibattito, confronto e analisi condivisa dei testi, coerentemente alla veste ‘seminariale’ del corso.
Transversal competences connected to the general aim of the course will be provided, with special reference to the ability to critically and autonomously read the classical text of the philosophical historiography, to historically and theoretically contextualize them, and to identify their methodological specificities. In so far as the course is conceived as a seminar, a relevant role will be played by debates, students questions, and shared reading of the text.
La verifica dei comportamenti avverrà in itinere, a partire dalle attività e dalle esperienze di lettura proposte durante le lezioni; sarà prevista anche la possibilità di presentazioni da parte degli studenti.
The evaluation of the transversal competences will be in itinere, with reference to the activities and the readings proposed during the course; the opportunity for the students to expose their research paper will also be offered.
Non sono previsti prerequisiti; le conoscenze di base sul pensiero hegeliano indispensabili all’inquadramento delle Lezioni sulla storia della filosofia verranno fornite durante il corso.
There are no initial prerequisites; the aspects of Hegel’s thought essential to the understanding of the Lectures will be outlined and summarized during the course.
Le lezioni verranno svolte a distanza, mediante la piattaforma Google Meet, registrate e accompagnate da presentazioni in Power Point. I materiali didattici e le slide verranno condivisi e resi disponibili tramite Moodle. Sarà possibile discutere e approfondire gli argomenti affrontati durante il corso, oltre che via mail, ricorrendo a videochiamate individuali e chatroom. L’eventuale elaborato scritto verrà consegnato e valutato tramite Moodle; il colloquio orale finale verrà svolto tramite Google Meet.
The course will be delivered online, through the platform Google Meet, recorded and accompanied by PowerPoint presentations. Didactic materials and slides will be made available and shared with the students through the Moodle platform. The topics addressed during the lessons will be discussed and further explored not only via email, but also by means of individual videocalls and chatrooms. The research paper will be submitted and evaluated via Moodle; the final interview will be held via Google Meet.
Le Lezioni sulla storia della filosofia di Hegel: genesi, metodo, struttura
Il corso illustrerà anzitutto la complessa genesi del testo delle Lezioni, allestito e pubblicato per la prima volta, postumo, da K.L. Michelet nel 1833-1836; le Lezioni sono infatti oggetto di una tormentata vicenda editoriale, dovuta alla loro peculiare natura di opera mai pubblicata da Hegel ma anzi ricavata a posteriori, grazie soprattutto ai quaderni di appunti degli allievi presenti ai corsi berlinesi (nel caso specifico, sarà preso in considerazione il corso svolto nel semestre invernale 1825-1826).
Verrà poi condotta un’attenta lettura delle sezioni introduttive delle Lezioni, allo scopo di far emergere a) lo statuto epistemologico e la posizione sistematica che Hegel assegna alla storia della filosofia – intesa come esposizione storicamente determinata dello sviluppo necessario e organico del Geist - nella sua filosofia dello spirito; b) gli aspetti metodologici che contraddistinguono la storia della filosofia hegeliana e ne marcano la novità rispetto ai precedenti tentativi di fare storia della filosofia (compiuti da Brucker, Tiedemann, Buhle, Tennemann).
Sulla base delle coordinate teoriche fornite nelle pagine introduttive, Hegel delinea il cammino svolto dalla filosofia nello spazio e nel tempo: a partire dalla filosofia orientale, definita come «qualcosa di preliminare», inquadrabile più nella «rappresentazione religiosa» che nella filosofia in senso proprio, il fulcro si sposta sulla filosofia greca, «il vero inizio», e, attraverso l’età medievale, si concentra sul pensiero moderno, il cui esito finale è identificato da Hegel con la propria stessa filosofia. Verrano pertanto esaminate le tappe principali del percorso tracciato nelle Lezioni, con particolare riferimento a Platone, Aristotele, la Scolastica, le grandi individualità del pensiero rinascimentale (Cardano, Bruno, Vanini), Böhme, Descartes, Spinoza, Kant, Fichte, Schelling. Le considerazioni dedicate da Hegel a queste figure potranno essere oggetto delle relazioni svolte dagli studenti partecipanti al corso.
Hegel’s Lectures on the History of Philosophy: genesis, method, structure
The course will preliminarly examine the complex genesis of the text of the Lectures, prepared and posthumously edited, for the first time, by K.L. Michelet in 1833-1836; the Lectures are indeed the final product of a tormented history, in so far as they have never been arranged by Hegel for the publication but have been composed as a book only a posteriori, especially thanks to the notebooks of the attendants to Hegel’s lectures in Berlin (in this case, the focus will be on the course of Winter semester 1825-1826).
A careful reading of the introductory sections of the Lectures will be then carried on, in order to highlight: a) the epistemological status and the systematic position of the history of philosophy – seen as the historically determined exposition of the necessary development process of the Geist – in his philosophy of Spirit; b) the methodological aspects which characterize Hegel’s history of philosophy and mark its novelty in respect to the previous attempts (by Brucker, Tiedemann, Buhle, Tennemann) to establish the history of philosophy as an autonomous discipline.
On these grounds, Hegel outlines the pathway of the philosophy accross space and time: starting from the Oriental Philosophy, defined as «preliminary» and pertaining more to the «religious representation» than to the philosophy in a proper sense, the focus shifts to greek thought, the «true beginning» of philosophy, and, after the exam of medieval philosophy, is centered on the modern thought, whose final stage is identified by Hegel with his own philosophical system. In this sense, the analysis will concentrate on the main stages of Hegel’s narration, with special reference to Plato, Aristotle, the Scholastics, the great individuals of Renaissance philosophy (Cardano, Bruno, Vanini), Böhme, Descartes, Spinoza, Kant, Fichte, Schelling. The pages devoted to these figures can be the topic of the students research papers.

Final interview. On a voluntary basis, students can write and submit a research paper (10-15 pages) on a topic agreed with the teachers and to be discussed during the interview.
