Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the main physiological mechanisms regulating the functions of cardiovascular, renal, pulmonary and digestive systems. He or she will acquire the ability to apply the knowledge and understanding of physiological methods and instruments relevant for human health. He or she will be aware of modern approaches for analyizing the integrative functions of the organs and systems in the maintenance of the main homeostatic functions. Lastly, the student will be aware of some principles of physiology of the nutrition to acquire the physiological basis for the understanding of some pathological processes.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
- The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss and correctly explain the main topics presented during the course using the appropriate terminology. - During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.

Syllabus
The course provides notions on the physiology and physiopathology of the cardiovascular, renal, pulmonary systems as well as the physiology and physiopathology of the digestive organs and glands. The course also approches the main issues related to the physiology of nutrition with particular emphasis on physiological mechanisms of eating disorders in some pathological conditions such as diabetes and obesity. Lastly, some issues related to exercise and physiological mechanisms of adaptation to extreme conditions are presented and discussed.
