Knowledge

The student who successfully completes the course will know the following topics:

  • The discrete symmetries CPT in Elementary particles and the conservation laws.
  • The first particle physics experiments that detected symmetry violations of Parity P,Charge Conjugation C and their product CP.
  • Elementary weak interactions and an introduction to neutrino oscillations.
  • Hadronic physics measurements at e+e- Colliders.
  • The discovery of quark c and elementary QCD model.
Assessment criteria of knowledge

- In the written exam (3 hours, 2 exercises each with 3 or 4 questions), the student must demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material, its capability to organize an effective and correctly written reply. - With his/her oral presentation to the teachers, the student must demonstrate the ability to approach a circumscribed research problem, and organize an effective exposition of the results.

Methods:

  • Final oral exam
  • Final written exam

Further information:
The student is strongly advised to pass the written test before admission to the final oral exam. At the link: https://elearning.df.unipi.it/course/view.php?id=312 interested students will find texts and solutions of the previous years written tests and several additional scientific and historical papers and references.
