The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of:

cost analysis
capital budgeting
organization
financial markets
different type of power plant management (gas fired, coal fired, nuclear, CCGT, CHP, hydraulic, solar, wind, ecc.)
electric power systems management for vertically integrated utilities
electricity markets structure
electric power systems management under electricity markets context
electricity tariff structure
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and to assess his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology.

MARKETS AND FIRMS: 1) Organization as a system; variables and performance of the organizational system; work division and coordination; job design; organizational design, main organizational models; 2) financial markets: bonds, shares, public offerings
ACCOUNTING The accounting model and the role of external accounting;
Cost classification. Cost analysis in the long term: economies of scale, scope and learning
Short term decisions: break even, mix and make or buy; Capital budgeting
CONTROL SYSTEMS: Balance sheets analysis
Main characteristics of electric power plants: power-up and shut-down procedures, maintenance procedures, hydraulicity management, wind and photovoltaic production, ecc.
