Lo studente potrà acquisire nozioni di biologia marina e conoscenze sulla storia dell'Archeologia subacquea, le caratteristiche della navigazione e del commercio antico; metodologie e tecniche di prospezione e scavo subacquei.
The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the sources and methodologies currently used in Underwater Archaeological research. The student will acquire the ability to classify underwater structures, sites and finds. He or she will will be able to discuss the environmental, economic and social aspects connected with ancient navigation. .
Per l'accertamento delle conoscenze saranno svolte continue attività di interazione con gli studenti nel corso delle lezioni.
- The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. - During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. - The student must demonstrate the ability to put into practice and to execute, with critical awareness, the activities illustrated or carried out under the guidance of the teacher during the course.

Lo studente acquisirà capacità nel riconoscimento delle diverse tipologie delle imbarcazioni antiche, da guerra e commerciale, sulle tecniche di costruzione navale, sulle modalità della navigazione antica, e del commercio antico. Acquisirà la conoscenza delle metodologie e degli strumenti per la prospezione e scavo subacquei.
In particolare acquisirà capacità nella classificazione del vasellame ed anfore a circolazione mediterranea con cronologia III sec. a.C.-VII sec. d.C.
Durante le lezioni gli studenti saranno coinvolti in operazioni di classificazione
Sviluppo della sensibilità alle problematiche dell' ambiente marino.

Breve storia della disciplina. La navigazione antica. Costruzione navale e tipologia delle imbarcazioni. Porti e scali marittimi e fluviali nel Mediterraneo. Commercio marittimo e fluviale (III sec.a.C.-VII sec.d.C.): aspetti politici, economici e sociali. Metodologie e tecniche di prospezione, scavo e relativa documentazione. Aspetti di biologia marina (argomento trattato dal Prof. F.Maltagliati, Dipartimento di Biologia, UniPi). Verranno svolte attività seminariali per la classificazioni di reperti (in particolare anfore e vasellame) oggetto di commerci marittimi mediterranei
Underwater Archaeology: ports, harbour structures, ships and boats and wares. A brief history of the subject. Surveys, excavations, documentation, also at great depth. Underwater structures and sites. Maritime and river harbours and ports of call in the Mediterranean. Submerged settlements. Naval archaeology, equipment and tools. Ancient navigation, maritime and river trade.
