Lo studente potrà acquisire e/o sviluppare sensibilità alle problematiche ambientali e territoriali relative ai paesaggi antichi e all'utilizzo integrato di tutte le fonti disponibili per la ricerca.
The students will acquire and/or develop knowledge about the environmental and territorial topics regarding the ancient landscapes, as well as being able to combine and utilize all the available sources for landscape research.

Lo studente acquisirà conoscenze in merito ai processi di formazione dei paesaggi urbani e rurali dell'Italia romana e sarà in grado di identificare nei moderni paesaggi, urbani e rurali, i resti del processo di romanizzazione dell'Italia
The students will become familiar with the processes of the formation of the urban and territorial landscapes of Roman Italy and will be able to identify the remains of the process of the Romanization of Italy in the modern urban and territorial landscapes.

The students will be able to acquire the ability to identify complex historical processes on the ground.
They will acquire and/or develop an awareness of the importance of safeguarding the landscapes, being able to identify their historical development.

Interesse ad aspetti ambientali ed attività sul campo (scavi, ricognizioni archeologico-topografiche, studio edifici antichi)
Interest in the study of ancient building and in the fieldwork (excavations, surveys)
Capacità di comprendere testi greci e latini
Comprehension skills of Latin and Greek texts
Paesaggi urbani, paesaggi rurali nel processo di romanizzazione dell’Italia. Verranno analizzati : i paesaggi urbani (colonie romane, colonie latine, città alleate), i centri minori (oppida, vici, pagi, fora, conciliabula), il sistema viario, il popolamento sparso nelle campagne, gli agri centuriati, le attività agro-silvo-pastorali, manifatturiere e commerciali. Vari casi di studio verranno presentati in prospettiva diacronica dal V sec.a.C al periodo augusteo.
Urban and territorial landscapes in the Romanization of Italy. The following topics will be analyzed : the urban landscapes ( Roman and Latin colonies, allied cities), the minor centres (oppida, vici, pagi, fora, conciliabula), the road system, the rural settlement patterns; centuriation; agricultural, forestry, breeding , manufacturing and trade activities. Various case studies will be presented in a diachronic perspective from the 5 cent BC to the Augustan Period.

An oral exam consisting of:
A discussion, of about 30 minutes, between the candidate and the Professor, about the topics dealt with in the course. The candidate will not pass this oral exam if he/she does not give the correct answers to important questions and repeatedly demonstrates an inability to correlate the different topics of the programme
Gli studenti potranno partecipare agli scavi archeologici a Vada Volaterrana (S.Gaetano di Vada, Rosignano M.mo, LI) e Luna (Luni, SP) e a ricognizioni archeologico-topografiche nel territorio pisano e nelle alte valli dei fiumi Tenna ed Aso (provincie di Fermo e Ascoli)
Potranno inoltre partecipare a seminari sulla classificazione dei reperti provenienti da commerci mediterranei
Students will be able to take part in archaeological excavations at Vada Volaterrana (S.Gaetano di Vada, Rosignano M.mo, LI) and Luna (Luni, SP) and in surveys in the Pisan territory and in the valleys of the Tenna and Aso Rivers (Provinces of Fermo and Ascoli)
Students will take part in Laboratory regarding the classification of Roman pottery
