The student who successfully completes the course will will be aware of the most debated archaeological and historical issues regarding pre-Islamic Arabia and of the history of their studies. He or she will be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of specific topics of particular interest, to approach critically the traditional theories and to analyse the archeological and epigraphic sources.
- During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. - The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to approach a circumscribed research problem, discussing critically the topics of the mandatory bibliography and their contribution to the subject of the course.

The course is dedicated to the presentation of topics of specific interest and to the analysis of the open questions in the field archaeology and history of the pre-Islamic Arabia. The topics are approached through the analysis of their history of studies and the research on the archaeological and epigraphic sources. Particular attention will be paid to the chronological issue (long/short chronology and periodization of the pre-Islamic Arabian history).
