Knowledge

By the end of the course, the students must have attained a proficiency level in English equal to the B1 Level of the CEFR. They will be able to maintain interaction in a range of tourism-related contexts; to solve communicative problems in intercultural contexts; to build confidence in the professional skills needed for the tourist industry; to generally follow the main points of extended discussion regarding tourism issues; to provide speech which is clearly articulated in standard English; and to express the main points they want to make comprehensibly. Students will also acquire specialized tourism terminology.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

Students will be tested to verify that they have attained the level B1 of the CEFR in Tourism English.

Syllabus

Students will learn the structures and vocabulary typical of English for Tourism.

The two textbooks above MUST be purchased. They must be NEW and not second-hand. 

Murphy, R., English Grammar in Use, Intermediate and Upper Intermediate (9780521537629) - or equivalent reference grammar. Students can use a B2 reference grammar they already own, if they do not want to purchase a new one. 

Further material will be provided by the teacher during the course.

Information will be provided by the teacher at the end of the course.

Assessment methods

The final exam includes a written test and an oral test.
