2) lo studente avrà acquisito conoscenze sui principali disegni d’indagine e gli stimatori diretti degli indicatori di povertà e condizioni di vita per domini pianificati in sede di indagine (Regioni); lo studente saprà usare Codici R per l'applicazione dei principali metodi di stima diretta degli indicatori (Librerie dei progetti SAMPLE e EURAREA);
At the end of the course the student will have knowledge on
1) the European Statistical System (ESS), the Data Production Model (DPM) and the main economic aggregates to study poverty and on the surveys on households (poverty and living conditions; EUSilc survey, Household Budget Survey, Labour Force Survey).
2) the main survey designs and their estimation strategy for planned domains of study (Regions); R codes for the application of the main direct estimators of the indicators (EURAREA and SAMPLE project libraries)
3) quality profiles of the surveys, of the new data sources (administrative archives and Big data) of the estimated indicators
At the end of the course student will be able to deal with the ESS and to criticize the statistical quality of the published indicators of poverty and living conditions (Laeken Indicators).
The knowledge will be assessed by
- meetings of the students to discuss the group work of the R Lab with the professor and the teaching staff
- evaluation of the individual written test at the beginning of each exam session
The student will be able to
- search and analyse the official data sources (surveys, Censuses) on poverty and living conditions in Europe
- read and apply the R codes to perform direct estimation of the indicators
- present the results of the application of the estimators to European data
- during the session of the R Lab small individual projects will allow to understand how to run the R codes
- there will be small practical sessions to search and consult the data sources (search tools and
methods for a given research topic, searching the Web and the main Eurostat databases)
- the student will present the results of the small projects and of the searching of the data sources
- the student can develop awareness of the problems of local data on poverty and living conditions in EU
- the student can develop the ability to work in group and to manage the responsibilities as a group leader
- during the activities of R Lab and data searching the students will have to present short reports on the obtained results
- during the group activities the modalities of the definition of responsibilities, sharing of the workload and management of the project steps will be monitored and evaluated
- conoscenze di statistica descrittiva ed inferenziale
- capacità informatiche per elaborazione dati
- conoscenza dei modelli statistici di regressione
- descriptive statistics and inference
- data processing abilities
- regression models

Un approfondimento sugli aggregati economici è tenuto da Luigi Biggeri (1ECTS -The estimation and computation of Income, Consumption and PPPs in the European Statistical System); il focus sul profilo dell’errore non campionario è tenuto da Natalie Shlomo (1ECTS - Handling Missing Data, Statistical Data Editing and Imputation).
