Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability to use GIS in geological fields; He/She will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of digital terrain models; She/He will be aware of the use of GIS in geological applications (creation, analysis and maps derivable).
Assessment criteria of knowledge
the student will demonstrate the ability to have acquired the main tools and techniques to manage, analyze and produce digital maps in 2D and 3D geological environment using dedicated softwares.

Syllabus
Geomatics and its meanings - open systems geodetic and cartographic reference used in Italy (Rome 40 GB EO; 32-33 ED50 UTM, WGS84 UTM 32-33). Bullets on the representation of the reality through the layers information. Example of a database in the field of geology. Quantitative Raster pattern: the concept of spatial information.Digital Terrain Model: meanings and differences between TIN, DEM, DTM and DSM. Data processing and creation of 3D digital terrain model: the significance of spatial interpolation and interpolation methods. Representation of 3D maps using overlay techniques.
