Buona conoscenza degli aspetti principali della sociolinguistica, della variazione linguistica e del contatto linguistico. Particolare attenzione alla letteratura classica di sociolinguistica e agli sviluppi interdisciplinari attuali.
Good working knowledge of the main aspects of sociolinguistics, language variation, and language contact. Special attention will be paid to the classics of the sociolinguistic literature and to current interdisciplinary trends.

• analizzare dati linguistici da una gamma di lingue diverse con particolare attenzione alla variazione sociolinguistica.
• discutere le letture del corso e la loro applicazione a diverse situazioni
• passare in rassegna la letteratura classica della sociolinguistica
Students will know how to:
• analyse real-world language data from a range of languages with special attention to sociolinguistic variation.
• discuss the course readings and to apply their findings to various situations.
• review the classical sociolinguistic literature.

La sociolinguistica è lo studio dell’interazione fra linguaggio e società. Il corso tratterà i comportamenti e gli atteggiamenti linguistici che risultano da questa interazione. Il focus sarà sulla variazione linguistica in relazione a: genere, età, classe sociale, ethnicity, provenienza geografica.
Sociolinguistics is the study of the interaction between language and society. The course will deal with language practices and attitudes that result from this interaction. Our focus will be on language variation with respect to gender, age, social class, ethnicity, geographical origin.
