Obiettivi di apprendimento
Conoscenze
Attraverso un percorso storico-metodologico lo studente comprenderà il reale significato e la reale definizione di Archeologia sperimentale.
Tramite esempi-studio e approfondimenti pratici potrà essere compreso il corretto svolgimento di un protocollo sperimentale.
Knowledge
The Student who complete the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the main issues related to the experimental archaeology. He or She will have the ability to define a specific problem to investigate. He or She will have a solid capacity to realize an appropriate experimental protocol to investigate specific problem , analyse it and present the results in a structured way.

Assessment criteria of knowledge
-The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology.
- The student must demonstrate the ability to put into practice and to execute, with critical awareness, the activities carried out during the Laboratory activities.
-the student must demonstrate the ability to approach a circumscribed research problem, and organise an effective exposition of the results.

Syllabus
This course explore the history of experimental archaeology from the nineteenth century to the mid twentieth century and the development of this discipline considering the context of theological and intellectual debate.
The course will explore the relevance of experimental archaeology for the interpretation of Prehistoric and historic remains and artefacts. This will focus on an examination of the scientific methods relating to the nature of experimentation in archaeology and how are utilised new scientific techniques and ideas coming from others discipline.
The methodology of archaeological experiments will be explored, followed by selected case studies drawn from the subjects of: taphonomy, lithic technology (flint and ground stone), textiles, pottery and other vessels, houses and other structures.
The course is composed of two parts:
Part 1: theory and origin of the experimental archaeology
Part 2.:students will be actively involved in a specific experimental project

- la parte pratica si svolgerà in parte al laboratorio di archeologia sperimentale LASP ed in parte presso il Museo del Mediterraneo di Livorno.
