Learning outcomes
The course provides formal classroom teaching and experience-based learning. The main educational goals of formal classroom teaching are: 1) convey students principles and limitations underlying body composition assessment and energy requirements; 2) provide students the evidence supporting healthy nutritional choices, the nutritional properties of food and their impact on human health; 3) introduce students to the meaning and applications of different nutritional requirements for macro and micronutrients and how to generate balanced nutritional plans consistent with recommended nutritional requirements. Experience-based learning aims to train students in the application of principles conveyed during formal classroom teaching, focusing on: 1) how to take anthropometric measurements and evaluate body composition by bioimpedentiometric analysis; 2) how to use a professional nutritional software to spot nutritional deficiencies/excesses in a nutritional plan; 3) how to elaborate a balanced nutritional plan for healthy subjects, pregnant women, and elderly.
