Learning outcomes
The course represents the first teaching of organic chemistry and therefore it is intended to give the basic principles of this matter, which is propedeutic to other courses about organic chemistry and to biological chemistry, medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical analysis. In particular, the course will cover: the chemistry of main functional groups, reaction mechanisms of organic compounds, atomic and molecular orbitals, resonance, properties of chemical bonds, stereochemistry of organic compounds, configurational and conformational analysis, organometallic compounds, radicals, carbocations and carboanions, principle of organic synthesis and retrosynthetic analysis. Moreover, this course will give detailed information about the nomenclature, the physical properties and the synthesis of the following organic compounds: alkanes, cycloalkanes, alkyl halides, alcohols, ethers, cyclic ethers, alkenes, dienes, alkynes, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids and their derivatives, amines, phenols, difunctionalized compounds, enols enolate ions and their reactions.
