Learning outcomes
The objective of the Olive Growing course is to provide the student the background for designing and managing the olive orchard and introduce him/her to the main features of olive oil and table olives. Topics will include the biological characteristics of the Olea europaea L. species, propagation and nursery production, cultural practices to train and grow olive trees (pruning, fertilization, irrigation, soil management) and harvest the fruits. Criteria and practical aspects necessary to obtain high quality products using sustainable practices are also illustrated as well as the multifunctional role of olive growing.
