MARINE BIOCHEMISTRY
Code 127EE
Credits 6
Learning outcomes
This course will describe to the students the molecular aspects of the interaction between organisms and marine environment and the mechanisms of biochemical adaptation to the chemical-physical parameters characteristic of this environment.
The course presents several biochemical mechanisms related with the life in marine environment, such as: osmotic regulation, adaptation to low and high temperatures, salinity and pressure. Metabolic aspects of muscle function in marine mammals. Comparative biochemistry of hemoglobin in marine organisms. Biochemical methods for the study and control of pollution.
