Learning outcomes

The course deals with topics related to the structure and function of macromolecules of biological interest, such as proteins, lipids, polysaccharides and nucleic acids. Hemoglobin and myoglobin are teated as examples of the relationship structure-function of proteins. The study is also focused on enzymes and their function as biological catalysts. As example of metabolic integration, the catabolic and anabolic pathways of sugars and fats, and their regulation in relation to the cell energetic demand, are treated.
