The course describes the main types of compounds featuring d-block elements: aquo/hydroxo/oxocomplexes, oxides and hydroxides, chlorides and other halogenides, cyanides and cyanocomplexes, amminocomplexes, sulfides, sulfates and nitrates. Preparative, structural and reactivity aspects are presented and discussed with respect to the properties of the selected metal ion and ligand (electronegativity, ionic/covalent radii, oxidation state). Basic knowledge of corrosion and metallurgy is given, focusing on fundamental chemical aspects and the reactivity previously presented.
