Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge of both photogrammetric techniques supporting testing activities in Earthquake Engineering and geodetic techniques for crustal deformation surveying. The mathematical modelling of the surveyed deformations is another goal of the course

Basics of analytical and digital photogrammetry
Orientation and restitution by bundle block adjustment
Dense point cloud computation and interpolation

Crustal deformation surveying by satellite geodetic techniques
Basics of GPS/GNSS techniques
Surveying by GPS/GNSS permanent or semi-permanent network
Surveying by GPS/GNSS low cost devices
Co-seismic surveying by GPS/GNSS high-frequency data
Basics of SAR interferometry techniques
Surveying of stable natural reflectors or permanent scatterers

Time series analysis of repeated surveys
Deterministic modelling (trends, harmonic oscillations, etc.)
Residual stochastic modelling by collocation
Spatial correlation modelling by principal component analysis
Statistical tests on the estimated model and deformations
Computation of the deformation field and stress tensors


Laboratory activities
Close-range photogrammetric survey, image processing and deformation study of a testing object
