Credits 6

Learning outcomes

Goal of the course is to give students a concrete understanding of all the elements that characterize the data center architecture, cooling for high density installations and fabric with particular attention to high performance fabrics.
In particular, the lessons cover:
• Data center elements (power, cooling, network)
• Energy efficiency architectures (PUE and chilling architectures)
• Power distribution
• Software Defined Datacenter: optimizing datacenter resources by means of software
• Rack organization and workload balancing
• Datacenter operations and management (including server, storage and fabric management principles)
• Software stacks for datacenter workloads (bare metal, VMs, containers)
• HPC and AI system constituents (GPU, servers, network Ethernet, Infiniband, Omnipath, storage for HPC)
