The course introduces the basic concepts of descriptive statistics, exploratory data analysis, probability and statistical inference. Statistical techniques are illustrated having in mind their immediate applicability to empirical problems. Formal classroom lessons are alternated with frequent working practice sessions.
The objective of the course is a rather wide development of statistical concepts, with little mathematical formalization and great emphasis on understanding the fundamental techniques of data collection, design and analysis of experiments and, finally, data analysis.
