Learning outcomes

International Protection of Human Rights
The module is aimed to equip students with the essential notions and the methodological tools for developing a critical approach to international mechanisms for protection of human rights, at global and regional level. The study of the procedures where States (or international organisations) are called to demonstrate the respect of international commitments will be accompanied by the exam of the mechanisms leading to assess the criminal liability of individuals for the commission of international crimes.
EU external relations law
The module is aimed at providing an overview of the instruments used by the EU to shape in its relations with third countries, of its relationship with international organizations (in particular, with the United Nations) and the principles underlying the EU external actions. The course examines the competence of the EU in the area of common commercial policy, neighbourhood policy, humanitarian aid, development cooperation, common foreign and security policy and the common security and defence policy. The EU relations with the European Neighbourhood policy countries and with other third countries to counter terrorism and other threats to EU security will feature among the topics of the course. At the end of the course, the student will know the inter-institutional relations amongst the various organisms and institutions that play a role in the EU external action and of the impact that such an action has on the wider international community.
