Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide knowledge of both the basic science and the applications of pharmaceuticals derived from biological sources and obtained through both genetic engineering and hybridoma technology. Particular attention is paid to the drug development process, including product production, product recovery, product analysis and final product formulation, preclinical studies, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, toxicity studies, and the role of regulatory authorities. Special emphasis is also given to the biotechnology of the major biopharmaceutical types both on the market and currently under development, like therapeutic hormones, growth factors, cytokines, blood products and therapeutic enzymes, antibodies, vaccines, nucleic acids therapeutics.
