course is intended to provide the student with a introduction to remote sensing imaging systems. The course covers the study of radiometry, with emphasis on the model of the radiative transfer in atmosphere. Physical optics is introduced to illustrate the main design issues of optical systems. Fundamental methods for mapping of physical quantities from remotely sensed data are presented and discussed. Earth observation methodologies based on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) are presented. Design issues of image reconstruction processing chain are analysed. Further activities: MATLAB computer exercises are included to process remotely sensed multi-spectral data and to simulate image reconstruction processing of European Mission SAR data.
