Learning outcomes

The course is divided into six sessions. The first session will provide knowledge on the fundamental principles of toxicology (classification of toxic agents, toxicokinetics, toxicodynamics, and immunotoxicology). The second session will focus on describing carcinogenesis and teratogenicity (including risk assessment after exposure to xenobiotics during pregnancy and lactation). The third session will be devoted to illustrate examples of variability factors that can affect individual responses to environmental chemicals and drugs (clinically significant interactions and toxicogenetics) and to describe methods for monitoring drugs used in the clinical practice. The fourth session will be devoted at describing the toxicity produced by specific agents (drugs and cosmetics, drug abuse and addiction, chemical, physical and biological agents; food toxins and those of animal and vegetable origin). In the fifth session, we will discuss employment opportunities for pharmacists in this specific area, while in the sixth and final session, we will deal with simulated clinical cases and decision making in toxicology
