Physical-level design of integrated circuits

Credits 6

Learning outcomes

This course aims to enable students to design integrated circuits requiring knowledge of process technology and of device physics that is not completely captured in the device circuit model. For effective learning, the student at the start of the course should be already familiar with the basic concepts of analog electronics, electron devices, and analog integrated circuit design. Topics of the course are i) the design of integrated circuits with 3D or quasi-3D technologies (FinFET and FDSOI); ii) the design of analog and digital CMOS circuits operating in subthreshold condition, iii) the design of memory circuit blocks (embedded and stand-alone) with different architectures and technology (floating gate NAND and NOR, magnetic, phase change memories), iv) the design of neuromorphic circuits based on close integration of logic and memory.
