An introduction to the phonetic, morphological, lexical and syntactic structures of standard Italian and to register, dialect, mode, and diachronic variation. Particular attention will be paid to the varieties of Italian, to the relationship between oral and written texts and the emergence of substandard features in contemporary Italian.
