The Portuguese Language I course consists of a monographic course given by the lecturer (54 hours, 9 CFU) and a “lettorato”, given by native speaking instructors (CELs). Both the course and the language practice contribute to bringing students to the A2+ level of competence in Portuguese. The Portuguese Language I course provides a description of the fundamental characteristics of the Portuguese language in its two main varieties, at the phonetic-phonological, morphological (word constituents, word formation processes) and lexical (renewal and enrichment of the lexicon) levels, in a phrasal perspective. Such an approach is useful for understanding the functioning of simple written and oral texts and for the student’s development of communicative skills in production and reception in non-complex written and oral contexts.
