The course aims to provide students with the essential conceptual tools for the geotechnical design of foundation systems. Starting by the concepts explained in Soil Mechanics and Basic Structural Design, the issues related to the foundation design and their correct modelling is addressed. The course includes a brief description of the soil investigations needed for an appropriate characterization also in consideration of the seismic action definition.
