Learning outcomes

The main goals of this course are to present engineering technologies and procedures for construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure, including pavements. The course outlines embankment stability and settlements, pavement evaluation, non-destructive techniques used for quality control of roadworks. It is also cover applications to highway and airport pavement design; flexible and rigid pavement types and wheel loads; stresses in flexible and rigid pavements; pavement behaviour under moving loads; soil stabilization and recycled materials. Pavement distresses, automatic and conventional crack detection, pavement management systems, economic analysis and maintenance optimization techniques are also discussed.
