Learning outcomes

Provide the knowledge and skills to build an interdisciplinary, flexible and systemic view in order to understand, analyze, design and manage complex business processes and projects, both in industrial sectors and services.
Students should be able to carry out the identification, modeling and analysis of processes, in order to identify critical issues and plan for improvements (BPR or continuous improvements). Also, they should be able to plan and control complex projects.
The course will introduce fundamentals of business process management (BPM) and illustrate the methodologies and techniques for modeling and analyzing business processes (BPMN, qualitative-quantitative analysis techniques, simulation). Metrics for measuring process performance and the performance management systems (PMS) will also be presented.
As regards project management, the characteristics of project-oriented organizations will be introduced as well as the phases and requirements of project planning, with related techniques and management support tools (WBS, Analysis of constraints, Scheduling, Budgeting, Risk Management). Time compression methodologies will be reported (Craching and Fast Tracking) as also the EVM control system and the logic of re-planning will also be discussed.
