Experimental petrology is a field of research concerned with the experimental determination of the physical and chemical behaviour of rocks and their constituents. The goal of the experimental petrology is to reproduce in laboratory otherwise inaccessible natural processes, such as magmatic crystallization and partial melting of rocks, obtaining quantitative petrologic models. The goal of the class is to illustrate the main experimental and analytical techniques, as well as their application to the fields of Earth and material sciences.
