Learning outcomes

The course of general pathology provides notions on the pathologic bases of the main the degenerative, metabolic, inflammatory, neoplastic and, physiopathologic diseases of the dog, mainly, and other domestic animals. The physiopathology will mostly focus on immunopathological diseases, especially the ereditary ones. During the development of each topic, particular attention will be given to idiopathic, ereditary, infectious, nutritional causes in order to give the student an overview of the implication of the studied topics in the future professional activity. Practical activities will be performed to learn the fundamentals of histology and clinical pathology. Interactive sessions of tests will also be performed. The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the pathologic bases of diseases of the dog and other domestic animals. Besides the pathogenesis, he or she will acquire knowledge of the main macroscopic and microscopic features of the studied pathologies, as well as some clinico-pathologic insights that may help in their future activity.
Moreover the student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the main issues related to mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics and metabolism of drugs used in animals. He or she will acquire knowledge of the toxic aspects most frequently found in domestic.
