Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide the students with knowledge about etio-pathogenesis, epidemiology and prophylaxis, including basic rules of Veterinary Policy Regulation, of the infectious diseases of dogs and farm animals (cattle, sheep and goats, swine, horses, poultry). Particular attention is focused to the role of dogs in the epidemiology of these diseases, acting as source of infection for other dogs, as well as for farm animals and humans. Notions about the main techniques employed in serological, bacteriological, virological and molecular methods are provided, too.
The aim of the course is to give to the students skills necessary to recognize and limit epidemiological risks, mainly in case of zoonoses, and skills to carry out microbiological diagnostic methods.
The course also aims to provide the basis on the rules concerning sale, welfare and identification of dogs and cats, as well as the regulation of manufacture and sale of pet food. Legislative knowledge will be of particular importance for the future professional figure in breeding, dog management / education,production of feed for animals. The student will be able to update, following the procedures of change, modifications and repeals, on the current legislation.
Moreover the course aims to provide the necessary knowledge to correctly and consciously play the role of the assistant within a veterinary facility
