Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to give to the students knowledge and skills about the management of the following laboratories: 1) bacteriology, virology, protozoology and mycology (preparation and sterilization of cultural media, solutions, glassware and other materials, pathogens cultivations, in vitro antimicrobial tests, waste disposal); 2) serology (use of the main methods); 3) molecular diagnosis (use of the main methods); 4) parasitology (understanding and implementation of main coprological quali-quantitative techniques, coproantigens detection, specific stains, cytologic techniques, detection and identification of microfilariae and haemoprotozoa); 5) entomology (specific cytologic techniques, dermatological specimens processing for parasite isolation and identification).
Moreover the aim of the course is the knowledge of cyto- and histopathologic (histochemical and immunohistochemical) procedures for the diagnosis of pathologies in the canine species. The practice activities will be performed at the laboratory of diagnostic histopathology, ISO 9001 certified.
